“I Am Sorry, Mom”: Massive Protest Outside Delhi School After Class 10 Student’s Death; Note Alleges Harassment
New Delhi:
A major protest broke out outside a Delhi school after a 16-year-old Class 10 student died on November 18. The boy left behind a handwritten note alleging that he had faced continuous harassment from teachers, prompting students and parents to demand strict action.
The student left home that morning for school while his father was away. A few hours later, authorities were informed that he had died at a metro station. Police recovered his school bag, inside which they found a note expressing deep emotional distress and urging authorities to act against certain teachers.
Note Alleged Harassment at School
In the note, the boy apologised to his family, saying he had been deeply affected by the behaviour of some teachers. He wrote that he felt constantly criticised and mentally pressured at school.
He expressed regret to his parents and siblings and wrote that his “last wish” was for action to be taken so that “no other student suffers the same fate.”
Father’s FIR Supports the Allegations
According to the FIR filed by the boy’s father, the student had been “under severe mental stress” due to repeated humiliation and scolding by certain teachers over minor issues.
The father stated that despite approaching the school multiple times and raising verbal complaints, the alleged behaviour continued. The family recalled that the boy’s emotional state had deteriorated in the weeks leading up to the incident.
Protests Outside School
As news of the tragedy spread, students and parents gathered outside the school, demanding accountability from the administration. Many held placards calling for a transparent investigation and action against those named in the note.
Several parents said that if the allegations were true, it reflected a serious failure in ensuring a safe environment for students.
Police Launch Investigation
Police officials said they are analysing the contents of the note, statements from the family, and CCTV footage.
They also confirmed that:
- The FIR has been registered
- Statements from teachers and school staff will be recorded
- The circumstances leading up to the incident will be thoroughly examined
The investigation is currently ongoing.
