Dhruv Rathee Slams ‘Dhurandhar’ Trailer

Dhruv Rathee Slams ‘Dhurandhar’ Trailer; Admits He Was Wrong About Praising ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’, Ranvir Shorey Calls Him ‘Fake’

The trailer of Ranveer Singh’s upcoming action film ‘Dhurandhar’ released with massive buzz, with fans eager to see what the high-intensity thriller offered. While many were impressed by its scale and visuals, popular YouTuber Dhruv Rathee took a sharply different stand. Instead of appreciating the film’s production value, Rathee strongly criticised the trailer for its extreme violent elements — a reaction that quickly snowballed into a heated online debate, especially after actor Ranvir Shorey joined the conversation.

Dhruv Rathee Questions Graphic Violence

Soon after the trailer dropped, Rathee posted that he was disturbed by the opening sequence, claiming the visuals showcased extreme brutality. He argued that such scenes normalise violence and “send the wrong message” to audiences.

In a post on X, Rathee wrote:
“Aditya Dhar has crossed a limit of cheapness in Bollywood. The extreme violence and torture in the trailer is equivalent to watching real-life executions and calling it entertainment.”

He further added that the director seemed “blinded by money”, and suggested that this was an opportunity for the Censor Board to reconsider what it finds objectionable.

Old Video Resurfaces: Netizens Point Out Rathee’s Past Praise

As Rathee’s criticism spread, social media users resurfaced an older clip where he had praised the cult classic ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’, calling it one of the most significant Indian films. Many questioned why the violence in that film did not trouble him earlier.

Rathee responded to the criticism and acknowledged a change in his perspective, saying:
“I was wrong; back then I didn’t understand the impact such films have on society.”

Ranvir Shorey Fires Back

The controversy escalated when actor Ranvir Shorey reacted to Rathee’s posts. Replying directly to him, Shorey wrote:
“Buddy, you’re wrong most of the time. But I love how you’ve turned that into a career.”

Rathee retaliated by sharing an image referencing Shorey’s stint on Bigg Boss OTT, adding:
“Better than having a career where you do scripted fights on Bigg Boss for a living.”

Shorey hit back:
“The fights in the BB house are not half as fake as you, buddy. Lage raho.”

Fans Divide Into Camps

The exchange triggered a wave of reactions online. Some fans sided with Shorey, urging him to ignore Rathee, while others argued that Rathee’s critique of the trailer was valid. Shorey later said he intervened because he felt Rathee was “sabotaging a film and filmmaker.”
