Nitish Kumar Set for Record 10th Term as Bihar Chief Minister After NDA Legislature Party Vote

Nitish Kumar is poised to become the Chief Minister of Bihar for a record 10th time after being unanimously chosen as the leader of the NDA legislature party on Wednesday. The decision came during a meeting at Samvad, located at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, attended by newly elected MLAs and 22 Legislative Council members of the alliance.

Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Sinha to Continue as Deputy Chief Ministers

Alongside Nitish Kumar’s election as leader, the Bharatiya Janata Party announced key leadership positions:

  • Samrat Choudhary has been elected leader of the BJP legislature party in Bihar.
  • Vijay Sinha has been chosen as the deputy leader.

Both leaders are expected to continue serving as Deputy Chief Ministers in the new NDA government.

Massive NDA Victory in 2025 Bihar Elections

The NDA’s decision follows its sweeping win in the 2025 Bihar Assembly Elections, where the coalition secured 202 out of 243 seats. Seat distribution within the alliance:

  • BJP: 89 seats
  • JD(U): 85 seats
  • LJP (RV): 19 seats
  • Two smaller allies: 9 seats

The BJP emerged as the single largest party, while Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) closely followed.

Formation of the New Government

As part of the formal procedure, Nitish Kumar is expected to submit his resignation today (Wednesday). He will then be invited to form the new NDA government, which he will once again lead.

The oath-taking ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, at the iconic Gandhi Maidan in Patna. The 75-year-old leader will take oath as Chief Minister for the 10th time, marking a historic moment in Bihar’s political landscape.
